Wilderness Protectors: Celebrate Earth Week

April 20 - 24, 2026 from 9am to 4pm

Join us for an unforgettable Earth week at Hirundo where campers will become skilled Wilderness Protectors! This week participants will explore how to connect and protect the plants and animals around them through exploration of the forests, streams, and meadows of Hirundo. Campers will explore a new topic each day by diving into hands-on activities like planting native plants, creating pollinator habitats, and completing a special conservation project in support of the wildlife at Hirundo!

This camp is perfect for young nature lovers and budding conservationists eager to learn, explore, and have fun while making a difference!

Sign up for 2 or more days of fun!

Monday: Buzzes and Blooms

Dive into the buzzing world of pollinators and the beauty of native plants! We’ll discover how bees, butterflies, and other pollinators keep nature thriving and why native plants are so important for pollinators, birds, soil, and more. Get ready to create seed bombs, explore the magic of flowers, and catch insects to learn about their fascinating roles in nature!

Thursday: Soil Secrets

Dig into the secrets of soil and uncover the hidden world beneath our feet! From tiny critters and decomposers to the big role soil plays in ecosystems, we’ll learn why healthy soil is so important. We’ll explore how soil helps clean water, run experiments on erosion and its prevention, and discover how this incredible underground world supports life above!

Tuesday: Water Wonders

Explore the watery wonders of streams, ponds, and vernal pools! We’ll uncover the incredible creatures that call these habitats home and learn how to check for signs of healthy wildlife. Get ready to dip nets, investigate aquatic critters, and discover the secrets of life in and around the water!

Friday: Feathers and Flight

Soar into the world of native birds! We’ll explore their habitats, discover their habits like migration and feeding, and learn about the challenges they face. From providing food and water to creating bird-safe windows, we’ll discover how we can support and appreciate our feathered friends and help them thrive in our world!

Wednesday: Habitat Guardians

Become a Habitat Guardian as we uncover what makes a habitat, explore different types of habitats, and meet the wildlife that calls them home. Learn how to protect these vital spaces and the animals that rely on them. We’ll use game cameras, try wildlife tracking, and discover how scientists identify important habitats to ensure they stay wild and thriving!
