Outreach Coordinator, Part-time


The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for working closely with both the Naturalist-Educator on development of programming, recruiting partners and participants, and with the Development Coordinator on marketing Hirundo's program offerings, outreaching with community partners, and supporting development projects as needed.


Responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with Naturalist-Educator to develop programs suited to a given audience

  • Outreach to schools and community groups to recruit program participants

  • Coordinate delivery of programs whether on site at Hirundo Wildlife Refuge or off site

  • Coordinate and lead outreach tabling events and presentations

  • Post and maintain programs/events on website, ticket sales via Eventbrite and social media, including answering questions and follow-up with participants.

  • Handle event/program marketing including posting to local community calendars, flyer distribution (with support of volunteers), email blasts

  • Purchase or collecting of materials, supplies or small equipment as needed for programs and events.

  • Work in partnership with Social media consultant to post relevant outreach content: event advertising, sponsor thank-you’s, photo-recaps of events, etc.

  • Work under the direction of Development Coordinator for recruiting in-kind donations and low-level sponsorships.

  • Serve on Program Committee (arrange periodic meetings, email brief post-meeting summary) 

  • Serve on Development Committee


Skills A person who is successful in this position would have:

  • Excellent written and oral communication

  • Friendly, collaborative and energetic manner

  • Creative, think-outside-the box thinker

  • Highly organized and thorough (able to keep track of both upcoming and long-term marketing and outreach responsibilities)

  • Tech-savvy and familiar with basic website management (Wix experience a bonus), Facebook, Instagram, Mailchimp, Google Drive, Power Point

  • Initiative balanced with ability to accept or seek direction as appropriate

  • Enthusiasm for Hirundo’s mission (To enjoy, understand and protect Hirundo's natural and cultural environment for the mutual well-being of our human and wildlife communities.)

  • Optional, but welcome: Familiar with a range of community groups both physical and virtual Hirundo can use for recruiting attendees, volunteers, donors, partner organizations etc.


Hours 15/week on average (possibility for increase later)

Pay     $15/hour

Visitors are welcome at Hirundo daily from dawn to dusk.  Gate 1 is closed for the winter season. However, you may park at the gate and walk in.
