Wilderness Protectors: Celebrate Earth Week

  April 15-19, 2024

We’re going on a nature-filled adventure that celebrates Earth Week and you’re invited!

During this week’s camp our Wildlife Protectors will learn more about how they can help in protecting the wildlife around them and uncover nature clues that will lead them down new paths, creating an immersive experience that encourages questions about the animals and plants that live at Hirundo!

We’ll plant, go on nature walks, build the best forts using natural materials, and work on a special, conservation project that helps protect the wildlife at Hirundo and celebrates Earth week!

Recommended Age: 9-13

For safety reasons no children under 8 years of age will be admitted to April camp.

We welcome you to sign up for 2, 3, or 5 days of fun!

Your Outdoor Adventure Awaits!

Each day campers will investigate a new topic!

A packing list will be provided upon registration. Campers should dress warmly and be prepared to spend a large portion of the day outside.

Wednesday: From Binge-watching to Birdwatching!

Let’s turn our eyes upwards and learn about the birds that live in Hirundo! We’ll use our eyes and ears to identify local birds, learn all about how they make their nests, and even make some of our own! We’ll learn about avian adaptations, how beaks are used to forage, and see how well we would do as a bird in a ‘hungry birds’ game!

Monday: Wild About Water

Splish, splash your way through the day! Campers will explore Hirundo and take a closer look at the creatures who live in our ponds and rivers! Have you ever wondered about our family of otters who play by the riverbanks? Or searched for signs of frogs in the pond? Let’s play some interactive nature games, create our own web of life, and use our team building skills to build our own beaver dam!

Thursday: Mad About Mammals

Today we jump into the world of Maine’s mammals! We’ll marvel at this diverse class of swimmers, runners, climbers, gliders, and fliers! We’ll search for tracks, learn about mammalian adaptations to different habitats, and play games as deer and bats!

Tuesday: Into the Woods!

Today we immerse ourselves in the world of Maine’s plants. From tiny sprouts, to ferns, to tall trees we’ll learn how to identify local plants and discuss their importance in our past, present, and future.

Friday: Becoming Wilderness Protectors

We'll celebrate Earth Day and participate in activities that help preserve the wildlife of Hirundo! Today our campers will be a part of our mission to make a difference! We’ll have a blast working on projects and becoming Earth Protectors!

Please note: Camp registration fees are non-refundable.
